Rolla Jaber, M.D.

Just your typical Northern Virginia kid, Rolla Jaber always took pleasure in fun activities such as soccer, basketball and…writing extensive reports on human physiology?  Okay, maybe “typical” isn’t the best description for Rolla, whose passion for science and medicine began in elementary school and continues today as a dermatologist at Fair Oaks Skin Care Center in Fair Oaks, VA.

The young Rolla Jaber enjoyed many different sectors of medicine, including pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery and pathology, each equally challenging and rewarding in their own rite.  One question loomed over her first few years at medical school: Which specialty she would choose?

In fate’s most timely way, she got the opportunity to do a dermatology rotation in her third year and fell in love.  Rolla discovered a visual attribute in the field and its unique blend with other specialties.

Graduating at the top of her class, Dr. Jaber went on to complete a dermatology residency at the Detroit Medical Center.  During her final year, she was chosen to serve as chief resident in dermatology.  However, as someone who was born in Richmond and raised in Northern Virginia, continuing her career in Fairfax County was a no-brainer.

Dr. Jaber attributes much of her success to her parents, who immigrated to the United States and sacrificed their lives to give her and her siblings an education.  Her family, which she feels encouraged her great respect for life and compassion for others, is the source of her inspiration and daily motivation. Her homegrown appreciation for life has certainly influenced the way that she views medicine.  Early on in her training, she learned to value the practice of medicine as an art form.  She feels it is that level of understanding that defines a great physician.

One of the things Dr. Jaber enjoys most about dermatology is the opportunity to help a diverse amount of people in a variety of ways, whether soothing an infant’s eczema to providing resolve and maybe even a self-esteem boost to an acne-prone teenager to giving a means of relief to a grandparent with skin cancer.   Her love for helping others isn’t limited to office hours only.  As a member of the Fair Oaks community, Dr. Jaber has made it her goal to involve herself with local schools and youth groups to educate kids and parents on the importance of sun protection and safe sun practices, especially at an early age.

It’s a good thing that she’s a strong advocate for sun-protection, especially since she spends a lot of her free time outdoors.  Whether reviving with a nice jog or biking with her husband and children, applying sunblock, to Dr. Jaber, is a habit that is just as important as tying her shoelaces.

Dr. Jaber loves to travel and is fluent in Arabic, already having visited the Middle East several times.  So what’s next?  Maybe one day she will escalate her community outreach to a more global scale…
