“I found dermatology by accident,” says Dr. Mary Mather.  “It was in my fourth year elective rotation of medical school, and I discovered I loved Dermatology’s mix of medicine, surgery, and laser technologies.” 

It was her father who inspired her to pursue a medical career.  As an accomplished dentist and teacher at Georgetown University, his example and mentorship formed her foundation in medicine.  Dr. Mather was born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico while her father served in the U.S. Navy.  Following his example of military service, Dr. Mather received her medical training at the Uniformed Services University, and served 15 years in the U.S. Army.  She graduated in the top of her class, and was the recipient of the prestigious Army Surgeon’s General Award in medical school.  After completing her Dermatology Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, she remained at Walter Reed for an additional 5 years, teaching medical residents and students, both at Walter Reed and as an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Uniformed Services University.  Dr. Mather joined Fair Oaks Skin Care Center in 2002, after her honorable discharge from the Army.
